Discovery

Many have asked me about my diagnosis wondering how I found out. So here’s the story….

I felt a lump. I didn’t think to much of it because I had fibroadenoma’s in the past. Halloween (Wednesday, 10-31) we were in our old neighborhood, per usual, and my old neighbor was recently diagnosed. After hearing her story, I thought maybe the lump could be a thing. The next day I had my husband feel to see what he thought. Immediately he agreed that something felt off. Thursday and Friday morning he texted me asking if I had called the doctor…of course I hadn’t. I eventually did at the end of day Friday (11-2). The following Monday (11-5) I was at the OB. She sent me to get a mammogram which became an ultrasound followed by a biopsy. All completed before noon Tuesday (11-6). The next day I received a call and voicemail that the results were already in. I didn’t hear that message until Thursday morning (11-8). Why? Because simultaneously by mother was in the hospital and had just found out she needed triple by-pass surgery. I jumped in my car Tuesday after the biopsy to head to Toledo. With bandages on and ice-pack in bra I was off to T-town.

Thursday morning I called the surgeons office to then find out the results were positive for Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. It slightly didn’t phase me because my gut had already told me it was the real deal this time around. I had already had a benign mass removed from the same breast 2 years prior. I’m also a pretty good read on people and when leaving the biopsy the doc says “you’re gonna do great” and one of the nurses said “I wish you well” both statements to me meant they saw something on that screen that looked (cancer) abnormal.

Finding out while in Toledo was both good and bad. The night before (Wednesday 11-7) I was with my brother and childhood best friend. We had a great dinner then went on to the bar next door. We talked, laughed, cried, laughed more…it was a great night! It was meant for me to get that BC news a day late, after that great evening with 2 of my favorite people.

It was very hard to tell my husband over the phone, but again, maybe that was meant to be. My mother had surgery the next day (11-9) and I’m happy to report she’s home and doing well.

So there’s how the discovery all went down. The clock is now ticking to the big surgery. 14 hours until I need to be at the Hospital. I’m sure I’ll have one more post between now and then.

The hubs will post tomorrow with an update after surgery.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE LOVE AND SUPPORT! IT MEANS MORE THAN YOU’LL EVER KNOW!
