outpatient surgery hump day

Happy Hump Day!

This weeks Hump Day was a tad bit eventful for us, as today was my first follow-up outpatient surgery. We arrived at 8:15am (for 9:45am procedure) as requested. Only to be followed in by a lady that says “I was supposed to be here at 8am for an emergency appointment with Dr. K, but I’ve just been sitting out in lobby.”

I thought:

1. Oh great! That’s  gonna push my surgery back.

2. It’s 8:20 lady, you’re late! (Says the habitually late smart-ass me;)

3. Why in the world were you just sitting out in the lobby!? some kind of “emergency” ey?

Well, @noonish I get rolled back to surgery, 1hr 45mins later I’m out and waking from anesthesia. Laughing & Chatting-up a storm with the nurses, which was a much more pleasant demeanor then a week ago Monday. Not sure if I already mentioned (in a previous post) how beyond irritable I was after The major surgery.

Apparently morphine is not my friend…I’m more of a Dilaudid kind of girl. Coupling the morphine and an intense tightness I felt in my neck & back after being on that OR table for 8 hours; I needed Dilaudid instead of Morphine, a side of Ativan and a master masseuse! (Says my alter-ego Dr. Dixon.) The hubs was scared that he might actually hurt me when I asked him to massage (or death grip) my neck muscles because they were so tight. So, I quickly fired the hubs from helping and hired my brother? When it comes to negotiating the need for different meds with the medical staff and pinching my neck muscles almost to the point of snapping, my bro was more suited for that job at the time.

Ok…I got off track…where was I?!?

OH! All went well today with my follow up procedure. The Surgeon was pleased with the skin, sutures & such regarding the breasts but abdomen (flap) incision didn’t look so fab. They fixed it up, ordered an oral anti-biotic, an ointment for the incision and asked me to slouch more while walking. Apparently my oh-so-perfect posture is to much for my new flat as a board stomach. THAT was music to my ears! Looks like we’ve found an upside to this BCBS!!

Here’s the best news of the day – 3 DRAINS ARE GONE! Woohooo! Feels like I lost 10lbs and received some early Christmas gifts!!

I’ll leave you with this to round out my synopsis of the day:

Surgery Bill $ 0.00

CVS scripts $ 0.00

Receiving a call from the nurse after leaving surgery center, asking me to return because I left with The IV still in……..PRICELESS??

Whoops!
